Musical Empowerment of the Upper Valley (Dartmouth College)
Musical Empowerment of the Upper Valley is a chapter that was founded out of Dartmouth College. We currently serve Dothon Brook Elementary School which is located just across the border in Vermont. We aim to provide free private music lessons for students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to study music. There are currently 8 student-teacher pairs. Through the private lessons, we seek to provide both a musical education and a college student mentor. Our program provides all the instruments, music books, and accessories for the students. Teachers attend regular workshops, meetings, and social events in order to make this program a community for both teacher and student! We also provide field trips to the campus arts center to see the college symphony orchestra perform! Lessons take place at the Dothon Brook school and yearly recitals are held as well to showcase our students' dedication! We accept teacher applications in the fall, winter, and spring. We take on new students in the fall and winter quarters. Lessons take place year-round from September to June. Lessons take place at Dothon Brook school.
Our chapter was founded in 2016 by Matthew Goff ‘18 and Magdalena Raska ‘20. Since then, we have grown to a team of 5 executive board members with a total of 9 teachers. Lessons will be starting in the winter of 2019 at Dothon Brook Elementary. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of musical instruction while also forging thoughtful, genuine, and caring relationships with our students! Our chapter places special emphasis on the community for both teachers and students. We have social events just for the teachers to reflect, bond, and brainstorm about their experiences and support teacher-student relationships through funding field trips to local concerts. We cannot wait to grow as a chapter and serve the Upper Valley here in New Hampshire!
